BSL is a national platform entirely owned and driven by companies from Sri Lanka’s private sector which have joined, and continue to support the cause of BSL, as its members. BSL relies completely on its members for its journey’s direction, day-to-day operations and long-term sustenance. Membership of BSL also brings in a wide array of benefits to its members, in the areas of biodiversity conservation and environmental protection. This mutual relationship grows each day with the activation and constant upkeep of two-way communications and collaborative initiatives. Active Member recruitment and service provision by BSL, as well as continued engagement, participation and constructive feedback by its members, keeps this mutually beneficial relationship alive and thriving.

BSL’s membership is of four types:

  • PATRON MEMBERSHIP

Patron Members are a select group of organizations which have demonstrated a long-standing commitment to environment/biodiversity conservation issues, and have the ability to showcase exemplary performance in the realm of biodiversity conservation, either aligned to their core business or to their CSR strategy. These members support and direct the activities of BSL by pointing out priority areas and concerns that need addressing. Patron Members are represented at the highest level, through two rotating seats in BSL’s Board of Directors.

Patron Member recruitment is on invitation, and as such, are expected to make a one-time investment by means of a grant amounting to LKR 150,000/- which absolves their obligation to pay a membership subscription fee for a period of two years. Patron Members are also expected to sign and stand by the ‘Leadership Declaration for Responsible Biodiversity Conservation in Business’ which they will be briefed on, at the time of invitation. On recruitment, Patron Members are provided with an exclusive logo, which they are allowed to use in any and all of their public communications and awareness creation related to their service to the conservation of Sri Lanka’s valuable biodiversity heritage.

The financial commitment of Patron Members, starting from the third year of membership, is an annual subscription fee of LKR 30,000/-.

  • TIER II GENERAL MEMBERSHIP FOR SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES (SME)/SME MEMBERSHIP

Recognizing that SMEs form a bulk of Sri Lanka’s businesses, it has also been noted that collectively, this segment leaves the largest ecological footprint when compared to other businesses. Therefore, BSL actively encourages the engagement and participation of SMEs in the achievement of BSL’s core objectives.

Tier II General Membership for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME)/SME Membership is open to all Sri Lanka-based small and medium corporate enterprises which could either be successful achievers of nationally important biodiversity conservation targets or those who are well on their way, or have just started, or are yet to start their journey towards good practices that lead to biodiversity/environment conservation in their own fields of work. SME Membership is the latest category of BSL Membership introduced recently. It is now possible for SMEs to start applying for membership with BSL.
