Life Project’s GPS Survey and Community Meeting

After several setbacks due to the monsoons and inclement weather, the BSL and IUCN team working on the Life project, finally reached the project site yesterday, the 3rd of July. As planned, the GPS Survey of the project site was completed successfully with the support of the Forest Department’s Regional Office in Thawalama. The 10ha land plot has now been marked with poles for identification. The next step of the process will be the fencing of the plot to try and keep the potential threats of herbivores away. Introductory meetings to set up community nurseries also took place yesterday and we saw much enthusiasm among the local community members, as they expressed their willingness to contribute to the project by maintaining plant nurseries which will also bring about an extra income for them.
