Green Principles in Lending- Banking and Finance Sector Networking and Learning Event 2015
The Sri Lanka Business and Biodiversity Platform, in partnership with its Patron Members Hatton National Bank PLC (HNB) and People’s Leasing and Finance PLC organized a networking and learning event for Banking and Financial Sector organizations in Sri Lanka on the topic of ‘Green Principles in Lending’ on the 27th of February 2015 from 09:00 to 16:30hrs at the 22nd Floor, HNB Tower, 479, T. B. Jayah Mawatha, Colombo 10. Forty professions from 14 institutions attended the event.
Session I of the event delivered an explanation of biodiversity principles having a bearing on the banking and financial services sector, by Prof. Devaka Weerakoon of the Faculty of Science, University of Colombo. A second session on green lending principles from the customer and client base, supply chain and within the institutions themselves were elaborated through presentations and practical examples by Dr. Manitha Weerasuriya, Technical Director, EML Consultants (Pvt.) Ltd., Mr. Vidhura Ralapanawa, General Manager, Environmental Sustainability of MAS Intimates (Pvt.) Ltd., and Ms. Chiranthi Cooray, Chief Human Resources Officer of HNB. The event concluded with the presentation of the 2015 Road Map on Environmental and Social Management Systems for the Financial Services Industry in Sri Lanka by Mr. Jonathan Alles, CEO/ MD of HNB.
The event proved to be a huge success with participants requesting for more exposures of this type. The presentations were followed by lively and interactive discussions.

Dilmah Conservation Launches ‘Common Butterflies of Sri Lanka’
(Colombo, Sri Lanka – 07 February 2015) The hues and textures of tea from different terroirs in Sri Lanka found their match at the t-Lounge by Dilmah, in 246 butterfly species. Dilmah Founder Merrill J. Fernando and his son Dilhan hosted scientists and media at the launch of Dilmah Conservation’s most recent publication, ‘Common Butterflies of Sri Lanka’ – authored by Himesh Jayasinghe.
