SL Forest Cover to Increase to 35% by 2020
In a move to increase the country’s forest cover from the current 29.7% to 35% by 2020, the Sri Lankan government has pledged support to plant an additional 900,000acres and protect it via newly established Forest Security Committees at GS Division level. Read more…
Virtusa’s ‘Code Green’ Wins Gold
Sri Lanka Business and Biodiversity Platform’s Patron Member – Virtusa (Pvt.) Ltd. – bagged the Gold award at the National Green Awards 2013/2014, for its ‘Code Green’ initiative which focuses on minimizing the company’s environmental footprint and contributing to the mitigation of Climate Change. Cinnamon Lakeside Commemorates WED 2014
SLBBP Member – Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo – commemorated World Environment Day on the 5th of June 2014, by organizing a clean up of the water and surrounding areas of the Beira Lake. The Beira Lake is one of the few remaining urban wetlands in the City of Colombo and as such, provides an invaluable refuge for the city’s aquatic bird population. More…

SLBBP Facilitates Standard Chartered Bank’s WED 2014 Awareness Programme
The Sri Lanka Business and Biodiversity Platform facilitated the presence of technical resource person – Prof. Devaka Weerakoon – who addressed the Standard Chartered Bank’s (SCB) Environment Team on World Environment Day 2014. Prof. Weerakoon presented a thought-provoking lecture on the Day’s theme, ‘Raise Your Voices, Not the Sea Level’ focusing on exploring the significance of Climate Change for Sri Lanka as a Small Island Developing State. The presentation was followed by an interactive session which aimed to answer queries and enlighten the proactive and dynamic SCB Environment Team, already engaged in a number of effective conservation programmes in Kosgoda as well as internally, within the Bank. The staff of the Platform’s Secretariat were happy to be a part of the awareness programme as invited guests.
SLBBP Celebrates World Environment Day 2014 with SriLankan Airlines Ltd.
The Sri Lanka Business and Biodiversity Platform was invited to join the World Environment Day 2014 celebrations of SriLankan Airlines (SLA) Ltd. as its Guest of Honour. On 5th June 2014, SLA unveiled its website dedicated to communicate its environmental activities and also publicized its brand new environmental policy.
